Some Site News: I’m Gonna Repost My Own Stuff!

I’ve been thinking about making some changes to what I post here. Since I tend to focus on other projects on the weekends, I frequently never get around to writing a Saturday post until I’m into the next week. It isn’t difficult to write an extra post one or two days a week, but I think I might go back through all stuff I’ve written in years past and share it here. Not just anything of course. I’m thinking of either reposting old poetry or doing a re-run of my Coldheart and Iron series. I haven’t really decided, but it’s more of a “which one will I do first?” than a “what should I do?” type question.

I’ve been considering recording myself reading my poems as a means of enhancing the posts, so I’m not merely reposting old work (which would be counter to my goals of creating something for each post that goes up here). I’ve had some alright gear I’ve accumulated over the years of thinking about starting a podcast (which I still think about doing) so I should be able to do some decent recordings, even if I haven’t quite figured out how audio editing works beyond the basics of trimming and moving stuff around. I never really had to do much editing of levels when I learned editing to produce CDs of college student performances when I was working at my college’s theater as a student. I’m sure I’ll figure it out, there’s enough guides out there, and I’m more than willing to spend the time on it since I still think about how useful a skill that would be to have. You never know when you might finally start a podcast, you know?

If I repost the story I was writing back in 2017 and 2018, I’d probably do an editing pass for the chapters I already posted and then actually write the last five to ten chapters so I’ve got a finished story up here. I’d also fix the tragic issue of how I never made the story easy to navigate. I always meant to go back and put in hyperlinks, but I never did it. To be entirely fair to myself, I used to think the buttons at the bottom of the page of each post were smart enough to sync up to the other chapters. I don’t know why I thought that, since it is clearly wrong, but I do remember thinking that I was happy to not need to do any work. I’ll actually be doing an extensive editting pass since I took a break from writing this paragraph to review the last chapter I posted and found a heap of issues. I started working on that almost half a decade ago and I’ve grown a lot as a writer since then. It might be more accurate to call it all a “rewrite” than an editing pass, now that I’ve taken another break and re-read the first part of the series, realizing I may want to dig into the stories a bit more deeply than I had planned.

Now that I’ve written it out, I think I’m going to start recording and reposting the poetry first, so I have time to work on the serial story. And, you know, come up with a better name. I doubt I’ll delete the old posts, since I believe in leaving records for posterity and I have no reason to delete them, so why take that step if I don’t have to? While the rest of this week will carry on more or less as normal, I’ll probably start the first of these re-posts on Saturday. After all, why not? The poems will be fairly easy once I figure out the audio editing part, since the poems are already written. Regardless, I think this is going to be a good project for me, on top of all my other projects. Both the poems and the serial story re-posts give me something to do, let me focus on something more creative than reflective (which I think is something I need right now), and should prove fairly entertaining. At the very least, I’m going to enjoy myself. I can’t ask for much more than that, you know?
